A mechanic easily answers a woman’s question about what car brand pays his salary.

In a TikTok that’s generated over 172,200 views as of this writing, Dave from Quality Auto Repair and Auto Sales (@qualityautodave) reveals which car brand pays for his salary.

A woman asks Dave, “What car brand pays your salary?”

“That’s easy, Jeep. Jeep. Jeep,” Dave answers.

Without hesitation, Dave immediately thought of Jeep while holding a crusty coffee mug with stains.

“Jeep stands for ‘just empty every pocket’ because that’s what people gotta do to pay for them when they break down,” he continues.

After answering the question, Dave points out a Jeep currently in the mechanic’s parking lot.

“I swear, anytime anyone pulls up a Jeep in our parking lot, I look out the door; I see a thousand bucks,” Dave says.

Even without any diagnostics, Dave guesses the job requires four digits to fix anytime a Jeep pulls up.

“I don’t even know why it’s here. It’s $1,000, $2,000, or $2,500 consistently,” Dave shares.

Circling back to the original question, Dave humorously suggests viewers buy a Jeep to keep business going. “Please buy a Jeep,” he concludes.

He adds in a statement given to Motor1 via TikTok direct message, “I only speak from my experience.”

Just Empty Every Pocket

The answer may have been a surprise for some, while others agreed. Commenters chimed in by saying they either loved their Jeep or completely agreed with the headache of maintaining one.

“My Jeep got 446k miles before breaking down,” one TikTok commenter shared.

“I have two Jeep Wranglers. A 2016 and a 2008. Both over 100,000 miles. Haven’t had any major issues,” another Jeep driver added.

“I’ve had a Jeep Wrangler for 13 years. Still going strong,” a third replied.

Meanwhile, not everyone has had the same luck with their Jeeps.

“My jeep is 1k every time there’s an issue,” one TikTok commenter agreed with Dave.

“Yup! Just dropped 1200 on my Jeep! I hate it but it’s paid for,” another added.

“As a 2023 Jeep owner awaiting repairs since January, can confirm,” a third shared.

How Does Jeep Rank in Terms of Reliability?

Jeep has earned mixed reviews among drivers, and the reliability scores indicate so.

Consumer Reports rated cars from 32 brands on safety, reliability, road-test scores, and owner satisfaction in its 2025 report card. Jeep ranked last with an overall score of 46 out of 100.

Additionally, the report mentions that not one model from Jeep earned a Consumer Reports recommendation. Most of the Jeep models ranked earned a two out of five stars for reliability.

However, RepairPal believes Jeep isn’t the worst car brand on the market in terms of reliability. ReparPal ranked Jeep three and a half stars out of five, making it 15th out of the 32 car brands considered.

Significant recalls with Jeep have taken place over the past several years, Kelley Blue Book reports. Some of these recalls included issues with airbag inflators, fire risk after rear-end crashes, and remote hacking.

This past week, Jeep has recalled 78,989 SUVs over tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) failing, Kelley Blue Book reports. TPMS is used to alert drivers when tire pressure is low. Low air pressure in tires decreases safety, fuel efficiency, tire life, and overall vehicle stability, according to Discount Tire.

What’s the Average Repair Cost for a Jeep?

“Jeep models average around $11,690 for maintenance and repair costs during their first 10 years of service,” per CarEdge. According to this number, the yearly cost is $1,169, which is in line with Dave’s answer.

However, RepairPal estimated that the annual repair cost to own a Jeep is $634 a year.

The average car costs around $900 per year to repair and maintain, ConsumerAffairs reports.

All these are estimates. The reports mention that the repair cost can fluctuate up or down each year.

To reduce repair costs, it’s essential to follow proper car maintenance routines, which include oil changes to help minimize repair costs down the road.

Motor1 contacted Jeep via email.
