This boss potentially put an employee in danger over a few hundred dollars’ worth of tires.
People in the comments section are livid on the worker’s behalf, sharing their own stories about what can happen when you drive on tires that clearly need a replacement.
USPS Driver Calls Out Boss
In a trending video with more than 94,000 views, United States Postal Service worker Zeke (@zekegonepostal) shared how nonchalantly their boss handled a serious safety concern.
“Supervisor talking about these are good for another 10k miles,” Zeke shared in the text overlay.
In the video, you can clearly see that the front tire on his USPS truck is so bald that there isn’t even a trace of tread. Instead, there’s what looks like a crack going down the center of the tire.
“These tires are TIRED,” Zeke said in the caption.
Boss Has a Change Of Heart
In a follow-up video, Zeke shared that the tires did end up getting changed out.
While it’s unclear what led to his boss changing their opinion on the matter and putting in the necessary resources, we’re just glad Zeke will be in a safer ride.
“Prayers were answered,” Zeke said in the caption with a crying face emoji.
What Is a Bald Tire?
When a tire has no tread or almost no tread left, it’s referred to as “bald,” Bridgestone Tire reports.
Your tires wear down with each mile that you drive them. Over time, the friction between the tires and the road, especially on rough surfaces or during sharp turns and sudden stops, gradually erodes the tread.
Heat, under-inflation, and improper alignment can speed up the balding process. Eventually, what’s left is a smooth, unsafe surface that can’t grip the road properly.
Why Are Bald Tires Bad?
Bald tires dramatically increase your risk of hydroplaning on wet roads, reduce your ability to brake quickly, and make it harder to control your car in poor weather conditions. In some states, driving on tires with tread below a certain depth is even illegal.
If you’re unsure about your tread depth, try the penny test: Insert a penny into the groove with Lincoln’s head facing down. If you can see the top of his head, it’s time for new tires.
